Man Stabs 11-Year-Old Boy for Being Mocked as Non Playable Character (NPC) in Video Game Culture

A man in Mill Creek, United States stabbed an 11-year-old boy for being mocked as a Non Playable Character (NPC). NPC is a term in video games.

Quoting from detikInet, the mention of an NPC to a person is valued as a designation. An in-game term, in which the in-game character is not controlled by the player.

Now sometimes the character is used as an insult, with the connotation that the individual in question lacks agency or critical thinking. So the perpetrator feels that he has been humiliated.

At first the stabbing incident was when two boys were hanging out around a shopping center. Then, meet a man and call him an NPC.

“He was at the crosswalk and we were up on the hill at the Dollar Tree, and then we shouted ‘NPC’ and he crossed the road and then started chasing us into the Dollar Tree,” said Joshua Federov, one of the two children. detikInet from GamerantTuesday (18/4/2023).

Federov didn’t expect the man to go berserk and stab his partner. “We’ll be fine if we run to the Dollar store. That’s what I thought. When I saw him pull out a knife I realized it wasn’t a joke.” said Federov.

The 11-year-old child was also hospitalized due to the stabbing incident. According to the testimony of the victim’s mother, Shanai Rowton, her child was immediately taken to the ICU and received oxygen. It is known that the hospital also gave one unit of blood, because the child lost quite a lot of blood.

The mother explained that her son had been stabbed in the lung and liver. As such, his son had to spend three days in the ICU at Harborview Medical Center. The latest news is that his son is now recovering and at home. Several times a day they had to tend to his stab wounds.

Rowton and Federov’s mother said they both moved to Mill Creek because it was considered safe. But the reality that happened did not match expectations. “After this incident, I was like, what are you doing now? Where should I move my children? After what happened, it’s not safe here anymore,” said Julia Federov.

The perpetrator is named Joshua David Pence and has been arrested by the police. This 29-year-old man received two violations for assault with a weapon.
