Man Found Dead in Movie Theater After “The Exorcist: Believer” Screening

LIMA, Peru – A man was found dead in a seat in a movie theater in Peru’s capital after the screening of the horror film “The Exorcist: Believer” ended, police reported Tuesday.

John Yumpo, police chief of the Santa Elizabeth police station — located in San Juan de Lurigancho, the most populous district in Peru — informed The Associated Press that the body was found in a room of the Cineplanet movie theater chain almost at midnight on Monday, after the last performance of the day.

“It is an unusual case, we have never found something similar before, a deceased in a movie theater,” Yumpo said. He added that homicide agents are investigating the case because the cause of death is still unknown and an autopsy is pending.

Local television stations showed a police van transporting the body in a black bag.

“The Exorcist: Believer”, directed by David Gordon Green and released in early October, is a sequel to “The Exorcist”, one of the most recognized horror films directed by William Friedkin and released in 1973.
