Malaysia vs Indonesia Rivalry in MotoGP: Mandalika Not a Threat

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

WithU RNF Yamaha team boss who is also the former CEO of the Sepang Circuit, Razlan Razalijudging that there is no rivalry between Malaysia vs Indonesia in the event MotoGP.

Razali considers that automotive sports are not the same as football or badminton which often presents competition between cognate countries.

For Razali, Indonesia’s ability to create the Mandalika Circuit is a blessing for the world motorsport in the Southeast Asia region because it presents a uniquely different track than ever before.

“I think we are rivals in all respects, Malaysia and Indonesia. Especially when talking about sports like football and badminton or something else. But I think motorsport is different because circuits around the world have their own uniqueness,” explained Razali.

“Unique Mandalika, unique Buriram, unique Sepang, unique Philip Island, those are the circuits in this region. Everything complements each other. As long as the event is supported by local people then there is no problem. When I was CEO [Sirkuit Sepang]”I don’t see Buriram as a threat, I don’t see Mandalika as a threat, it complements a championship.”

The existence of circuits in Southeast Asia also allows fans to travel from one country to another enjoying MotoGP competition.

On the other hand, Razali also emphasized that the success of organizing an international racing event cannot be separated from experienced people so that the willingness to open their minds and accept assistance is an important factor.

“But at the same time there is nothing wrong if the circuit or the country helps each other to organize the championship. As long as everyone is open-minded and willing to help from the Sepang Circuit, from any circuit,” he said.

Razali also said that when Sepang first held a world-class race, there was assistance from foreign countries such as Portugal and Australia.

“You have to be open-minded. To do your best, you have to bring in skilled people and make local people learn. That’s the only way to be the best.”

“As long as they are open-minded and willing to help, there is a transfer of knowledge from experts. That’s important. I don’t see rivalry when talking about MotoGP or circuits,” said Razali.
