Malayalees in Dubai Worried as Fake Police Calls Increase in Frequency

Complaints that phone calls pretending to be police are becoming widespread in Dubai. The phone calls come claiming to be a senior police officer and asking for bank details for some procedure.

People including Malayalees have shared their concern with MediaOne that these types of fake calls are coming frequently in recent days. It is said that Salim and Jamal, natives of Nilambur, Malappuram, who work in private companies in Dubai, have received such calls multiple times. If this continues, they are preparing to approach the police.

Also, along with the phone call, they are also asking for the OTP sent in the name of the Dubai Police. They also testified that their relative was in the police force at the time of the phone call and quickly disconnected the phone as an ‘antidote’.

In such circumstances, the authorities are constantly warning that bank details should not be handed over to anyone.
