MAINZ – Los Erzgebirge Aue as FSV Mainz 05’s first-round opponent in the DFB Cup has brought back unpleasant memories for professional soccer player Moussa Niakhaté. But he has now reacted to them on Instagram with a large portion of self-mockery. When the 05er posted that Aue had already been a cup opponent for Mainz three times, most recently in the first round of the 2018/19 season, the 05 captain replied: “And after 2min40 red for me”. The “red” expressed by a red circle. He added a smiling smiley and the addition: “#firstgame”.

Is the central defender available for Mainz next season?

This self-deprecating style of the 26-year-old is well received by users. By late Tuesday morning he had already received more than 250 “likes”. Niakhaté was sent off in his first competitive game for the 05ers after moving from FC Metz to Bruchweg in the third minute due to an emergency brake. The fact that Niakhaté can laugh about it today was also due to the further development: The 05ers won the game against the then second division team 3:1 despite being outnumbered, and Niakhaté developed into a top player, which the users of this newspaper even now 05 Player of the Season.

However, it is uncertain whether the central defender will get the chance for personal rehabilitation in Aue in the first round at the end of July or on August 1st. It is also considered likely that Niakhaté will leave the ’05 this summer. However, it looks like it will be a few weeks before a decision is made. Maybe even after the start of the competitive games, so that Niakhaté could still be available to the 05ers in Aue. Especially since it cannot be completely ruled out that the Frenchman will fulfill his contract in Mainz, which runs until 2023 – even if there is more to be said for a departure in the summer.
