Macbook Pro is criticized for the new “bus pocket” on the screen – so Apple answers

Apple’s new and far more powerful Macbook Pro machines recently crashed on the market, and although the praise has hailed around the performance of the new models, there has naturally also been feedback of the lukewarm kind.

Attentive, expectant customers have probably noticed that the new Macbook Pro editions have been given an ever-so-small “bus pocket” at the top of the screen, a design detail we know well from, for example, Iphone mobiles. Not everyone was equally excited about this, writes Macrumors.

Many have expressed skepticism about Apple’s decision in various online forums and social media. Among other things, leave the site 9to5mac published a survey among its readers, in which several thousand answered that they did not like the new bus pocket and preferred a regular frame around the screen.

Apple: – Really smart

Some users have, among other things, expressed concerns that the bus pocket takes up valuable screen space and in reality makes the screen area smaller.

However, Apple has quickly come to the fore with an enthusiastic defense of the design choice and an ever so small assurance that the screen area actually not is smaller. It happened in a fresh podcast-interview with the head of Apple’s Mac product line, Shruti Haldea.

– What we have done is make the screen higher. On the 16-inch, you still have a 16-inch active area diagonally within the 16:10 window, and we enlarged the screen from there and up and placed the menu bar up there. We just moved it up and away, in a way, Haldea said, adding a little self-praise:

– So it’s a really smart way to give you more space for your content, and when you’m in full screen mode you have the 16:10 window, and it looks really good. It’s seamless.

Thin frame

According to Apple, the increase in the screen has made the screen frame at the top significantly thinner than before, more precisely 60 percent thinner and with a waist width of 3.5 millimeters.

By the way, this is not the only case the new Macbook Pro has been criticized for. As digi.no reported recently the new models are only equipped with HDMI 2.0 instead of the newer HDMI 2.1 standard. However, the computers come with several USB-C ports with Thunderbolt support, which support greater resolution and refresh rate than HDMI 2.0.

Another new feature that presumably received some mixed reception was a “turbo button” that brings out extra power for the most demanding tasks on the 16-inch with the most muscular Mi Max piece under the hood.

In addition to the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, the new Macbook Pro editions boasted an updated version of Apple’s Magsafe solution, significantly longer battery life and a better screen.
