Hodgkin’s lymphoma is cancer of the lymph node system. System lymph gland is a collection of tissues and organs that help the body fight infection and disease.

Consultant hematology and medical oncology, Dr Johan Kurnianda SpPD, explained that the risk factors for Hodgkin’s lymphoma are not yet known. However, about 40 percent of cases of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are associated with an Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection.

In addition, there are also risk factors such as decreased immune system, nuclear family history of Hodgkin’s lymphoma and male gender. Certain age groups, namely the age of 15 to 30 years and those over 55 years, are also considered at risk.

“In general, the symptoms that appear are: lymph node enlargement in the neck, armpit, or groin,” he said in a media discussion entitled “Hodgkin’s Lymphoma: from Challenges to Hope”, Tuesday (15/2/2022).
