Love. Why is spring a good time to meet new people?

Notice to singles looking for new encounters: spring is the perfect season to broaden your circle of acquaintances and discover new people (despite the pandemic)! And no, it’s not just a popular belief, it’s well scientifically proven.

With the return of the sunny days, the body is indeed undergoing a series of chemical and biological changes that affect our relationships with ourselves, others and the way they perceive us.

A boost with serotonin

The effects of daylight are no longer to be proven. It has been known for years that winter, with shorter days, can cause seasonal depressions. It is therefore quite naturally the opposite that occurs in spring: when the days get longer, we benefit more from the sun and its benefits (euphoric and antidepressant). The brain then produces more serotonin, its production being directly stimulated by light.

Nicknamed the “happiness hormone”, it is a neurotransmitter which acts on the central nervous system and induces various actions, in particular in the regulation of certain behaviors such as mood, emotionality or anxiety.

A low serotonin level is therefore usually a sign of a depressive syndrome. Even if science has not yet found the miracle recipe for happiness, a normal rate or higher than the average, will therefore allow you to face the unforeseen and hassles of daily life without stressing, getting angry or anxious. More relaxed and peaceful, you are then in a state of mind favorable to the discovery of the other and to sharing.

A release of endorphins

Who says longer days, also says temperatures which go up. In the spring, we change our wardrobe. No more big sweatshirts and thick pants, we bring out lighter outfits and flowing materials. Thanks to the few hours of additional sun exposure, the body also releases endorphins which stimulate physical pleasure.

To promote its production of endorphins, nothing like the practice of a sports activity. And here again, many of us take advantage of spring and its renewed energy to resume or intensify exercises.

Increased production of pheromones

Another significant effect, the skin uncovered in the sun allows the body to release more pheromones. The latter, acting as messengers between individuals, are responsible for the perception of smell and influence sexual attractiveness. Released by the skin, sweat, saliva, these chemical molecules induce the behavior of other human beings towards us.

Men would be able to perceive the imminence of ovulation in women thanks to pheromones, this would even raise their testosterone level, which is the hormone responsible for sexual desire.

In contrast, a study from the University of Birmingham, carried out in 1980 and consisting of spraying a seat in a waiting room with a male hormone in the form of sweat, showed that women were more attracted to the seats. where men’s perspiration had been previously laid.
