LOK Report – Deutsche Bahn: Emergency plan has started – DB Cargo fears massive effects of the strike

The emergency timetable for DB passenger transport has started. The GDL strike is causing massive disruption to all long-distance and regional transport. We advise our passengers to postpone their journey until after the strike if possible.

The DB has drawn up an emergency timetable for long-distance and regional transport with a greatly reduced number of journeys. All connections in the emergency timetable are now available in the information media on bahn.de and in the DB Navigator app. In regional transport, the aim is to run a significantly reduced offer. The extent to which this is possible varies greatly from region to region.

If you still have to travel, you should check the DB information media shortly before you start your journey. We have also set up a special telephone hotline: 08000 996633.

As the largest European freight railway, DB Cargo primarily supplies the German economy, power plants, refineries and seaports with more than 3,500 trains per day. Freight transport has not yet paid off a high mortgage this week: the sudden onset of winter with record snow has resulted in hundreds of freight trains waiting to depart or having to interrupt their journeys.

This traffic jam of freight trains has not yet been completely cleared. A 24-hour strike leads to power plants, critical production chains such as the blast furnaces of the steel industry, chemical or automobile plants cannot be delivered or can be delivered with a delay. DB Cargo will do everything in coordination with customers to avoid industrial production coming to a standstill. This cannot be completely ruled out.
