Living in luxury for ‘bloody’ money. Lavrov’s daughter in London may face sanctions

But now everything is different. Kovaleva’s accounts on social networks are deleted, her current place of residence is unknown. What, on the other hand, is revealed is a secret where a young woman, whose mother is unemployed and her biological father is not very rich, could have earned money for her life on a very high leg.

Apparently, it was funded by none other than one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest associates, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. A man who is the mouthpiece of the Kremlin regime, and from whose mouth anti-Western statements or denials of attacks on civilians in Ukraine are repeatedly heard. Polina Kovaleva is his stepdaughter.

The revelation about their connection was published by the Russian journalist Marija Pevchichová from the Anti-Corruption Fund (a non-profit organization founded by the Russian opposition Alexei Navalny, editor’s note). She described not only Kovaleva’s lifestyle in London, but also the ambiguities surrounding her sources.

Private school, apartment for 132 million

Twenty-six-year-old Kovaleva enjoyed a fabulous life until the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in London, described by some sources as a never-ending vacation. He began his education at the most prestigious British schools. “She graduated from a private boarding school, then obtained a master’s degree from Loughborough University and the Royal University of London,” Kovaleva’s career is told by the British Daily Mail.

The studies themselves would not have to be a guide to anything suspicious, after all, the less well-secured people study at the institutions thanks to scholarships. But Kovaleva was a different case. “At the time of her studies, she lived in an apartment in West London, in a house owned by the Russian embassy,” the Daily Mail reports.

And not only that. Although she allegedly started working for Gazprom or Glencore after her studies, for years she showed the world pictures of holidays, clothes or housing that she could not earn on her own. And at the age of twenty-one, she even made an investment that most mortals can only dream of. “She bought an apartment in the London district of Kensington for 4.4 million pounds (roughly 132 million crowns, editor’s note). She paid in cash. No mortgage, “said journalist Pevčichová.

Kensington is one of London’s most lucrative neighborhoods. The apartment complex in which Kovaleva owns the apartment has received an architectural award, including a swimming pool, gym and cinema.

At the time of purchase, no one cared much about the source of the money with which this apartment was paid. But now information has emerged that could lead to British sanctions on luxury housing for young Russians as well. And why? Apparently, everything was financed from the pockets of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, whose assets are subject to British sanctions.

Unofficial wife

From a purely formal point of view, Kovaleva and Lavrov have nothing in common. They are not in any official relationship. But, as journalist Pevčichová revealed, they are in reality very close to each other. Kovaleva’s mother is a woman who has been Lavrov’s unofficial wife for two decades.

According to the investigative journalist, the relationship between the now 51-year-old Pevčichová and Sergei Lavrov began about twenty years ago. “Vladimir Putin’s friends often have two families at the same time. Even when Putin was married to Ludmila Putin, Putin himself built a second family with former gymnast Alina Kabayev. His Minister of Defense Shoigu has two wives and two children at the same time. And Lavrov is no exception in this regard, “Pevčichová remarked.

Lavrov is officially married for fifty years to the philologist Maria, with whom he has a 40-year-old daughter, Ekaterina. But no one has seen the family together in years. On the other hand, the head of Russian diplomacy has often been seen in the company of a certain Světlana Poljakovová, Polina Kovaleva’s mother, for twenty years. “She is his real wife,” Pevchich wrote.

Poljakov, who is referred to as Lavrov’s unofficial wife, does have very close ties with the Russian foreign minister. “He even allegedly sometimes uses his last name,” the Daily Mail said.

Polyakov is officially unemployed, but in Moscow and London she owns millions in property, luxury cars, and very often appears with Lavrov on his official trips abroad. “She is registered as a member of the diplomatic corps and sometimes takes her eighty-eight-year-old mother and niece with her. We found out that the Russian Foreign Ministry used the plane more than sixty times, “said Pevchichová.

Given that the unemployed Poljakova is the main source of wealth enjoyed by Polina Kovaleva, it is obvious, according to the investigative journalist, that the luxurious life of both women is financed by Lavrov.

Sanctions for Polina

As everything takes place on an unofficial level, neither Poljakov nor Kovalev have yet appeared on the list of British economic sanctions imposed on oligarchs, including Lavrov, after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. However, after the revelation of the connection between women and the Russian Foreign Minister, this could soon change.

Among other things, people who came to protest in front of the apartment that Kovaleva owns are calling for it. The Nexta server informed about the protest. “People came to the apartment with slogans such as’ Polina Kovaleva is the daughter of the war criminal Lavrov and launders his dirty money here,” Nexta wrote.

It is not clear where Kovaleva is currently staying. She deleted her social media accounts and disappeared from public view a few days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
