Little Milane’s dad who broke a glass on the skull of his 2 month old daughter remains in detention

The Liège council chamber examined on Monday the file of Christian R., a 26-year-old Liège resident who had broken a glass on the skull of his two-month-old daughter. The accused still denies having intended to kill his child. His preventive detention was extended for two months.

Tuesday, February 25, 2020 in the evening, Christian R. had presented himself in a pizzeria in Herstal and had crushed a glass on the skull of little Milane, his two month old daughter. The child was between life and death because a piece of chipped glass had penetrated his skull, requiring a delicate operation.

The perpetrator reported to the police the next day and was charged with attempted murder. Christian R. has always disputed the intention to kill and his lawyers, Me Solfrini and Me Rodeyns, still explain it at each stage of the procedure. “Our position is reinforced by the reconstruction of the facts which took place a few days ago,” said Mr. Solfrini.

According to the defense, Christian R. had no intention of attacking his daughter. He was upset when he entered the pizzeria and grabbed a drink. But he denies having touched the child in an intentional gesture.

The prosecution had requested the maintenance of Christian R. in detention during the passage in the council chamber. The defense requested detention under an electronic bracelet. The council chamber decided to extend his preventive detention by two months
