– Today I am resigning from the function of the minister of health. I anticipate all questions right away, I am not disappearing anywhere. I remain an MP and remain in the public space – explained the politician.
The minister said he had thought of his resignation earlier. – Ladies and Gentlemen, you know yourself and you are able to easily see what Poland would look like during an epidemic without e-prescription, without e-leave. It is a great merit of Minister Cieszyński. Unfortunately, COVID appeared and therefore I inevitably responsibly said that I would remain in the position and as long as it was necessary, I would hold this position – declared Szumowski.
– Today I decided that this is actually the time. We have a system built, we have a system of unilateral hospitals, we have an extensive network of laboratories and thanks to quick decisions, it was possible that there were not tens of thousands of deaths in Poland, as it was in the countries of Western Europe, many richer than us. Of course, we have increments to get sick, but we also have an economy that functions and we will have money for further fight and treatment of other diseases – said Szumowski.
Yesterday, the deputy health minister informed about his departure on social media. Janusz Cieszyński did not inform about the reasons for his decision. In the health department, the politician was responsible, inter alia, for the controversial purchases of equipment to fight the coronavirus.
Answering the questions, the health minister revealed that he planned to leave the government at the turn of January and February. Szumowski did not want to reveal the name of his successor.
Łukasz Szumowski announces changes in the coronavirus treatment strategy
The team working on the fall strategy for treating COVID-19 patients provided their recommendations. They provide, inter alia, increasing the role of family doctors – said Łukasz Szumowski.
The Minister of Health announced that the team he appointed had prepared recommendations in connection with the expected epidemic situation in the fall.
As he pointed out, the recommendations refer to the increased role of family doctors, “so that they have the opportunity and the right to order tests after collecting an appropriate interview, after checking to what extent the symptoms coincide with COVID-19 and how much they match with the flu”.
– We would like healthy and sick people to be separated not only temporarily in health care centers, but also to create – within the network, especially of district hospitals, but also other hospitals – outpatient clinics for people with symptoms of the disease. We are expanding the network of laboratories – he said. He added that the network of identical hospitals will also be modified.
