ANTARCTICA Venua in the Arctic or an area that stretches across the North Pole is known as an environment full of challenges for life.

However, some amazing animal species that are rarely known to humans have managed to adapt and be able to survive in an environment full of ice and very cold temperatures.

Maybe, people only know that the famous animal in the Arctic region is the Polar Bear. Sure enough the Polar Bear is one of the famous animals in the North Pole, he is able to survive because he has thick fur.

However, apart from the Polar Bear, the following are other animal species that can live on the Arctic Continent:

1. Narwhal

Monodon Monoceros or Narwhal is a species of whale that can be found in the North Pole. The Narwhal is a unique type of animal because it has a body shape like a whale with a thick layer of blubber, long horns which make this Narwhal known as the “Horned Whale”.

2. Arctic fox

Vulpes Lagopus is a fox that has the size of a dog and can live in very extreme seasons like the Arctic Continent. The Arctic fox can survive temperatures around -70°C because it has thick fur. Uniquely Arctic Foxes can change the color of their fur according to the season.

When entering winter, the Arctic fox changes the color of its fur to white to match the color of snow, whereas when summer comes it changes the color of its fur to brown or blue-gray.

3. Walrus

Odobenus Rosmarus is a marine mammal that can be found in Arctic waters. Walruses have large bodies covered with a layer of blubber.

This fat plays a role in maintaining the Walrus’ body temperature and as a source of energy reserves for the Walrus. Walruses have long canine teeth which serve several purposes as a means of holding on to ice as well as aiding in hunting for food.

4. Snow Owl

Bubo Scandiacus usually resides in Europe and northern America. The Snow Owl has thick, white fur. This thick fur has a purpose to protect itself from extreme cold weather.

The white color of the feather also protects the Snow Owl from enemy attacks because it looks like a snowdrift.

5. Reindeer

Rangifer Tarandus or Reindeer which is often described as the vehicle of Santa Claus is one of the animals that can be found in the Arctic Continent.

In the Lapland region of Northern Finland, the Reindeer is used as a racing event. In this area the reindeer population is very large, even almost equal to the number of humans.

6. Muskox

Ovibos Moschatus is a mammal that lives in the Arctic region. Some people may see the Muskox as a family of bison, however, the Muskox is still a species with wild goats or sheep.

The Muskox has a large, well-built body and is covered with thick fur as protection against extreme cold. Coupled with the fur that forms a cape on the shoulders that gives a muscular impression to the Muskox body.
