Burgaus Police chief Stefan Eska said in an interview with our newspaper that there were also many accidents at the point when there was an intersection instead of the roundabout. But the current accumulation of mostly rather smaller collisions is noticeable.

In addition, so-called advance signs are planned that indicate the distance to the roundabout. In addition, reflectors that are half-sunk into the floor, in which the light from the headlights is reflected, so to speak (“cat’s eyes”). If the measures take effect, you don’t have to do more, says Eska – otherwise lanterns would probably also be needed. The number of accidents should be observed for a year before a decision is made as to whether further readjustments are necessary.

The police can’t really understand why it crashes so often here. But the fact is: If someone plays on their cell phone while driving or is too fast in fog, all the modifications would not help. The previous accidents have happened in all directions, but since December 2018 there have only been six right-of-way violations, 23 times, however, have been driven too fast or inattentively. There are no figures for previous years, not even for the previous crossing.

94 accidents at the roundabout from 2000 to 2010

The State Building Authority in Krumbach cannot really compare the situation with the situation before the construction of the roundabout, as the course of the road has completely changed here. But a press release from the District Office in 2010 shows that there were a total of 94 accidents on the then B10 near Limbach from January 2000 to January 2010. The balance: 17 seriously and 64 slightly injured.
