Lidl, Aldi, dm: Disposable masks are now available here

For a long time there was a dispute about the obligation to wear a face mask. Which was probably also because there was hardly any anywhere. It is different now. With the beginning of the mask requirement there are now disposable masks at cost price at the discounter.

The national mask requirement is there and the offer is already tight. If you still need masks, you have the chance from Thursday. Because, among other things, the discounter Lidl will sell disposable masks in a pack of 50 from April 30th.

They should be available in all 3,200 Lidl branches, as the company announced in a press release on Tuesday. The packs of 50 cost 33 euros. One package is issued per purchase and per customer – while stocks last.

Lidl makes no profit with masks

Due to the current corona situation, Lidl offers the stock packs at cost price, which means in concrete terms: The price that customers pay for the masks only covers manufacturing and sales. The discounter does not make a profit with the sale. According to Lidl, the overarching goal is “to enable as many people as possible to access masks”.

In addition to the disposable masks, the discounter also plans to offer more mouth and nose covers in the future, such as fabric masks for multiple use. In the first stage, a total of 14 million disposable masks are available in the Lidl branches.

Aldi and dm are also selfless

Aldi Süd also wants to sell disposable masks from April 30th. The set of 10 is also offered at cost price and should cost 6.99 euros, as reported, among other things, by the “Lebensmittelzeitung”. So that there are no hamster purchases, the discounter only issues two packs per customer. To avoid a rush, the company has so far refrained from advertising.

The drugstore chain dm has been offering its customers since April 27th – just in time for the start of the nationwide mask requirementt – masks on. Each customer receives a mask at the entrance for the price of one euro.

So far it is unclear whether there are masks in other supermarkets. Edeka hopes to be able to offer some to its customers in early May. Aldi Nord, Kaufland, Rewe and Penny are still checking whether and when they can add masks to their range.
