Epic Games is going to require users to use two-step verification in the coming weeks if they want to download free games from the online game store Epic Games Store. The company writes that in one blog post.
In this way, the company hopes that “players will improve the security of their Epic account”. People who are not yet using two-step verification will be notified in the coming weeks if they try to claim a free game.
These free games are made available online every month. Customers must now set up the additional security measure before they can continue downloading.
With two-step verification, logging in with a username and password is not enough for users. They then have to enter a unique code that is generated, for example, in a separate app or sent by text message.
