León Airport closes February with a 25% increase in passengers

The Leon airport closes February with 5,291 passengers, 25.1% more than the same period of the previous year.

During the past month the airport infrastructure managed 177 landings and takeoffs.

In the first two months of the year, León Airport added a total of 7,967 passengers, 11% more than the same period of the previous year and managed 247 operations.

Passenger traffic on the Aena network fell by 14.3% during the first week of March (March 1-7), after the decrease in the load factor in the last days of February due to the spread of Covid-19.

Aena’s network airports registered more than 16.9 million passengers in February 2020, 4% more than in the same month of 2019, despite the decrease in the load factor in the last days of the month due to of the spread of Covid-19.

Specifically, the total number of travelers was 16,904,590. Of these, 16,817,978 corresponded to commercial passengers, of which 10,874,015 traveled on international flights, 3% more than in February 2019, and 5,943,963 did so on domestic flights, 5.4% more.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in February with 4,396,631, which represents an increase of 6% compared to the same month of 2019. It was followed by the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 3,280,937 (+ 0.4% more), which was affected by the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress.

They were followed by Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,126,766 (+ 7.1%); Gran Canaria, with 1,123,522 (-0.2%); Tenerife South, with 923,749 (-3.1%); Palma de Mallorca, with 917,291 (+ 2.4%), and Alicante-Elche, with 847,526 (+ 8.3%).

In the first two months of the year, passenger traffic grew by 3.2% and totaled 33,886,751 travelers at airports in the Aena network.

Regarding the number of operations, in February a total of 158,580 aircraft movements were managed in the Aena airport network, 2.8% more than in the same month of the previous year.

The airport with the highest number of movements was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 31,477 (+ 4.3%); followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 22,992 flights (+ 1.3%); Gran Canaria, with 9,826 (-5.2%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 8,457 (+ 3.9%); Palma de Mallorca, with 7,950 (+ 0.2%); Alicante-Elche, with 5,947 (+ 5.3%), and Tenerife Sur, with 5,774 (-3.4%).

During the months of January and February 2020, the number of operations registered in the set of airports in the Aena network was 315,136, 0.4% more than in the same period of 2019.

As for merchandise data, during the past month of February, 83,588 tons were transported, which translates into an increase of 6.6% compared to February 2019.

The four airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 45,075 tons (9.8%); Zaragoza, with 13,672 tons (-2.2%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 13,509 tons (+ 9.3%), and Vitoria, 4,999 tons (+ 1.7%).

In the first two months of the year, the traffic of goods transported through Aena’s network airports increased by 9.5%, reaching nearly 170,545 tons.
