Both the Left and the FDP in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are discussing their programs for the state elections at the end of September.
While 120 delegates from the left come together in Rostock, the northeast liberals meet at a digital conference. The left wants to regain lost trust – with reform proposals for education, health and social affairs. The party also wants to emphasize its “Eastern competence” again. She calls for the equalization of pensions and wages in East and West Germany. In the state elections five years ago, the Left had its worst result to date with a good 13 percent. In the latest polls it came to eleven percent.
FDP feels the tailwind
Survey values of six percent in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the return to the state parliament in Saxony-Anhalt a week ago, however, strengthen the FDP, which missed the entry into the parliament in Schwerin in 2016. She too is committed to education, wants to hire more teachers and speed up digitization. The northeast liberals are also against – in their opinion – excessive environmental protection. Rural areas should be cultivated, not turned into reserves, it says in the draft program – a clear opposite position to the Greens.
