Lebanon Rainstorm Causes Severe Flooding and Destruction – Kuwaiti News: Mansour Shaaban

A rainstorm hit Lebanon from one end to the other, saving nothing. The streets flooded and cars drowned, the blockage of ferries led to stagnant water entering homes, and the heavy rain caused rock collapses in mountainous areas. What was recorded was that civil defense personnel were able to recover the bodies of four children. They died as a result of the collapse of the ceiling of the room they were in in Himis – Miziara (Zgharta District) due to heavy rain, and the parents and the eldest son were able to get out of it alive.

In the Bekaa Valley, Governor Judge Kamal Abu Jouda followed up on the issue of evacuating a residential building in the town of Hazrata, which is threatened with collapse due to a severe landslide, which was caused by the large amount of precipitation that fell with the onset of the low air pressure that began on Thursday.

While meteorology expects the storm to subside, between today, Sunday and tomorrow, Monday, Beirut’s tunnels were filled and all roads leading to the Karantina Fish Market area (north of the capital) were cut off, and traffic was diverted to the main highway, due to the accumulation of mud and sewage, and the traffic control room in the force reported. Internal Security: Water accumulated inside the Bhamdoun tunnel towards the Bekaa and diverted traffic to the adjacent road.

Likewise, the level of the Kafarhlada-Basateen Al-Asi River in Upper Batroun rose significantly, deviating from its course, and its waters invaded a number of restaurants and cafes, and the Sarjbal Al-Jahiliyya Road in the Chouf completely collapsed.

The Jaj River also overflowed in Jbeil, where water flooded the road in the Al-Fartush neighborhood inside the city, and in the town of Lehfed, the river’s water overflowed onto the main road, and civil defense members worked to tow the cars that were submerged by the floods with their owners inside, and there were no places to spend the night.

In a detailed statement from the Civil Defense, its teams in the area of ​​(Haret El-Sitt, Dadoun, Wadi Shahrour/Aley district) used a bulldozer to open the road and rescue citizens detained inside their cars.

In the Nahr al-Ghadeer area, Burj al-Barajneh, al-Salam neighborhood (southern suburb), many citizens were rescued due to the river’s flood.

On the Old Sidon-Rishani road, the Civil Defense was able to rescue citizens trapped inside their cars and reopen the road. In the town of Bsaba, officers worked to withdraw water from inside a number of homes.

On the sea road extending from Nahr al-Kalb to Jounieh, north of Beirut, citizens who were trapped inside their cars were rescued, and the Civil Defense was able to rescue 64 students who were trapped by floods inside two buses in Nahr al-Kalb. One of the students was taken to the hospital and the necessary first aid was provided to another student.

In the Kfarhabab area (Keserwan District), the officers worked to remove the water that invaded a number of warehouses.

In the Mansouriya area – Zubaida and Broummana Qanater (Northern Matn District), citizens were pulled out by water rescuers from inside their cars, inside their homes and cars.

The situation is the same on the road to Baskinta (Upper Matn), Beit Chabab, the town of Zaghrin, Boulogne, and in Kenitra, down to the Antelias and Zouk Mosbeh area. Civil defense members were able to pull out a number of cars trapped in the floods, and on the Kfarchima Bridge, civil defense worked to pull out citizens detained inside their cars.

On the road to Deir al-Harf, Ruwaisat al-Balut, Ras al-Matn, the elements used bulldozers to remove dust and rocks and reopen the road.

In the locality of Al-Sayyad, Hazmieh, the elements worked to tow cars that were detained due to puddling water and diverted the water course near the Heart of Jesus Hospital, which was engulfed by torrential rains, east of Beirut.

On the Mansouriya Road, officers worked to tow cars stuck due to rain debris from landslides.

In Sidon, the port was closed due to the strong waves, and all reports received from the Lebanese regions, coastal and mountainous, reported that the winds were intensifying and the precipitation was heavy.

As for Mazraat Yashua, the officers worked to withdraw water from inside one of the warehouses, and towed cars impounded due to heavy torrential rains, and in Al-Fanar also, water was withdrawn from inside a warehouse.

The Traffic Control Room reported that the mountain roads closed due to snow are: Kafr Debian, Hadath, Baalbek, Aqoura, Ainata Al-Arz, and Jurd Merbeen Hermel.

For his part, Prime Minister Najib Mikati inspected the work of opening roads that were closed by torrents and dust due to the strong weather storm that Lebanon is witnessing, especially in the Karantina area and the course of the Beirut River.

The Prime Minister was accompanied on the tour by the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, who explained to him the reasons that led to the flood of the Beirut River, the emergency treatments that were taken, and the measures that will be completed after the storm subsides to prevent its renewal.

During the tour, the Prime Minister confirmed that what happened would be the focus of an administrative and judicial prosecution to determine responsibilities and hold those who were negligent accountable.

He renewed his salute to the members of the Civil Defense and the Beirut Fire Department for the efforts they made to rescue citizens who were besieged by floods, for opening roads, and for the emergency rescue operations they carried out.
