Breast cancer is a disease that has its main victims in the female sex. Over the years, progress has been made in the manufacture of drugs that help combat this.

Dr. Javier Cortez, director of the International Breast Cancer Center in Barcelona, ​​Spain, talks about the new drug that brings good news for people affected by this disease.

“The Trastuzumab – Deruxtecan (TDXD), belongs to the immunoconjugates or Trojan horses, the antibody is linked to chemotherapy molecules and only when it recognizes the malignant cells, it releases the chemotherapy drug producing a very great activity, it is very powerful with data that they had never been seen in breast cancer.”

The results of the clinical trials have been quite successful, since they show a panorama of effectiveness superior to the treatments carried out so far against breast cancer.

“With the best available treatment we had that 50 percent of the patients at 7 months no longer had the tumor controlled, with this new drug it has been increased up to 25 months and there is a 16% where the tumor disappears”. Ensures the scientist.

Although studies reveal that the percentage of life of patients increases from 84 percent to 94.5 percent, Cortez affirms that “times are too short and more studies must be done on this new medicine.”

Front, has there been any studies with patients who have suffered from COVID, to observe the acceptance of the drug, the expert assures that no, but it must be taken into account that “being a drug that contains chemotherapy, the patient’s defenses decrease ”.

For now, TDXD is only approved in the United States, in Colombia it is expected that management will begin so that it can begin to be administered in women who suffer from this disease.
