Lawyers Moreno B.: ‘OM has tunnel vision’ | Inland

LIVE – Reporter Saskia Belleman is present at the trial. You can read her tweets in this article (from approximately 9:00 am).

According to the lawyers of Moreno B., Gerald and Machteld Roethof, there is tunnel vision in the police and the judiciary.

One witness described the shooter as a teenager, thin, lanky. Others spoke of a slim man of 20 to 25, with a Surinamese / Antillean appearance according to one witness and a North African appearance according to another.

According to the lawyers, all those descriptions do not apply to Moreno B. The main suspect appeared before the court for the first time on Monday, together with co-defendants Anouar Taghi and Giermo B. In the suspect bank was a ‘pitch-black man’, according to lawyer Roethof, with an exuberant, long dreadlocks. The short sleeves of his black T-shirt stretched around his muscular upper arms.

Can’t run: ‘kids would catch up with him’

He has an abnormal gait due to an abnormality in his feet. Witnesses described how the shooter ran away “with a hop” after the attack. According to his lawyers, Moreno B. cannot even run. “Children would catch up with him.”

DNA of Moreno B. and Giermo B. was found in the car that was used in the attack on Wiersum, as well as blood of Wiersum. But according to lawyer Machteld Roethof, 21 DNA traces have been found in the car, also of unknowns. And the Moreno B. DNA trace on a car door and the handle of a jerry can are part of a mixing profile for 4 people. So there are more potential suspects in defense.

According to Gerald Roethof, the attack on Derk Wiersum was an attack on the rule of law. “Let’s not again ignore the rule of law principles,” he told the court in a plea to remain critical and not ignore the witness statements.

Wiersum’s death caused a shock wave

Just over a year ago, lawyer Derk Wiersum was shot dead at his home in Amsterdam-Buitenveldert.

Wiersum was the lawyer of Nabil B., the key witness in the controversial Marengo liquidation trial, in which Ridouan Taghi is the main suspect. B.’s brother was shot dead in March 2018 at his company in Amsterdam-Noord. Both murders caused a shock wave, in law enforcement circles and far beyond. After the murder of Wiersum, Marengo became the most heavily guarded trial in Dutch legal history.

Wiersum, 44, was attacked on the morning of September 18, 2019, while on his way to work. Investigations showed that the executors had been observing the lawyer for quite some time – they probably drove down his street dozens of times and posted there.
