Kuleba: Diplomacy restrains Russian aggression

EU supports Ukraine’s initiatives to contain Russia, says Kuleba

Since late January, Ukraine has engaged in “intensive diplomacy,” with a number of top European politicians visiting the country.

Diplomacy is working and deterring Russia’s aggressive intentions, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said, reports The department’s press service on Wednesday, February 9.

“Diplomacy is working and deterring Russia’s aggressive intentions. When I was at the European Union in November, I told my partners that we needed a comprehensive package to contain Russia. We proposed three elements: active diplomacy, tough sanctions, and military assistance to Ukraine. In these few months we have solved all three of these key tasks,” says the minister.

According to him, active diplomacy, which is the first element of Russia’s containment and has been evident in recent weeks, has turned Kiev into the center of international politics.

Regarding the second tier, he said the U.S. and European allies’ sanctions were completed.

“The sanctions are already in place, Russia knows they are in place, and Russia knows they are heavy. An important nuance: even after this escalation is resolved, the prepared package of sanctions will remain and will hang like a sword of Damocles over Russia in the future,” Kuleba noted.

He added that the third tier of the containment package is also being actively implemented. This is evidenced by the tons of military aid that has arrived in Ukraine recently.

“This is not the reaction that Putin expected, and it all works as a powerful deterrent,” the foreign minister summarized.

As a reminder, on January 31, the Foreign Ministry announced the start of the two weeks of “intensive diplomacy.”. During this time, Ukraine has already been visited by the prime ministers of Poland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, the presidents of Turkey and France, as well as the foreign ministers of several EU countries.
