The Kremlin has begun blackmailing big businesses to close a hole in the budget due to record war spending. Enterprises were given until October-November to collect a one-time fee. In case of non-compliance with the deadline, the Russian Ministry of Finance will raise the rate of “tax on excess profits” twice, writes Interfax.
The authorities are expecting from large companies 5% of the amount for which the profit of 2021-2022. exceeded the indicators of 2018–2019. If the tax is not paid within the next 6 months, the rate will jump to 10%.
According to Russian media, the law on the so-called excess profit tax will come into force only on January 1, 2024. By the way, initially entrepreneurs in the Russian Federation were told that this tax would be voluntary, but, as always, they deceived and issued it as mandatory.
