Kosovo threatens to boycott World Cup qualifying match with Spain after ‘provocation’ | NOW

It is not yet clear whether the World Cup qualifier between Spain and Kosovo will take place on March 31. Kosovo threatens to boycott the game because the country thinks that Spain is provoking.

Spain does not recognize Kosovo as an independent country and the Spanish Football Association RFEF described Kosovo on Twitter as “the territory of Kosovo”. The Kosovar Football Association calls this name “a provocation”.

“Kosovo is an independent country that has been recognized by most democratic and developed countries within UEFA and FIFA since May 2016,” Kosovar federation FFK wrote in a statement.

“We think this is an unacceptable response from Spain and immediately contacted the Spanish Football Association. We expect a quick response. If they do not respond to us, we will be forced to seek our right with UEFA.”

Kosovo’s independence has been a sensitive issue for Spain for years. With the explosive situation in Catalonia in mind, Spain has so far refused to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

Spain-Kosovo is a match from the third round of group B in the World Cup qualification. Sweden, Greece and Georgia are the other countries in the group that will try to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
