– Knew it would be nonsense – VG

SLIP-FREE TRAVEL: Øystein Lie (53), Barbro Kahrs Lie (51), their daughter Ulrikke (9) took the Danish boat together with Barbro’s cousin (right) Annette Solheim Rødder (42) and her daughters Maria (13) and Jennie (9).

COPENHAGEN (VG) In order to avoid being stuck at the airport, the extended family from Western Norway chose the sea route for the holiday.

– I knew all the way that there would be nonsense with SAS this summer, so therefore we chose another solution, says Anette Solheim Rødder to VG.

The 42-year-old has just left Danskebåten to spend a long weekend in Copenhagen with his two daughters and his cousin’s family.

– How was it?

– No, we have slept well and eaten well, says Anette.

– A little seasick kids, but.

Just as they were about to supply themselves with the buffet, the sea ravaged the worst, the family says.

– We could not eat so much because we were so seasick, but there was a good selection of food at least, says daughter Maria (13).

Has the summer trip been canceled? Here’s how to save your vacation:

– Flight chaos everywhere

Despite being a little seasick, the extended family of six is rested, buttery and – not least – on schedule.

The Danish boat docked in Copenhagen almost at the battle at 10 o’clock on Thursday morning, as it does every day.

Norwegians flocked from the boat. Several of them had chosen the sea route precisely to avoid delays at the airport.

– It’s flight chaos everywhere, then. So it is okay to avoid cancellations and to sit for hours at the airport, says Solveig Måbø (49).

– This is simple and easy.

A LITTLE DISEASE: Solveig Måbø (49) will be looking for airline tickets to avoid having to travel home by boat to Norway again.

SAS-pilotstriken, which is currently stuckcame on top of the aircraft technician strike in Norway and various strikes at airports in other countries.

Måbø had never taken the Danskebåten before, and the sea route was not really her first choice to get on a boyfriend trip to Copenhagen.

– No, it was a bit “shit au”, she says.

– We will try to find a plane home.

– Why?

– No, seasick, the world’s thinnest mattress and just boring.

DFDS Seaways assumes that the air strike may have had a smaller effect on their passenger numbers, but says it is difficult to compare with the same period last year due to the corona pandemic.

– In fact, the number of passengers already began to increase in February, as more and more coronary restrictions were gradually lifted, writes communications manager Kathrine Reippurt Jessen in an e-mail to VG.

– We see that the passengers have begun to return in earnest. The summer shows very very positive rates.

The company has seen a large increase in the number of bookings since April, according to Reippurt Jessen – also compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic struck.

No backup solution

– It is nice to take the boat, says Anne Birgitte Arras (47), who before the approximately 19-hour boat trip drove down to Oslo from Trondheim.

– We did not envisage taking flights as it has been at the airport now.

For the daughter Johanne (12), the first Danish boat trip was a success.

– There was a lot of chocolate spread for breakfast, says the mother.

IN PLACE: – We had not ordered a plane and thought we would drop it this year, when we saw how it was, says Anne Birgitte Arras. She and her daughter Johanne are ready for a city break in Copenhagen, and at the top of Johannes’ wish list is the amusement park.

But Danskebåten is by no means a backup solution for everyone.

– Have you chosen the Danish boat because of the air strike?

– No, because we love the Danish boat, says Håkon Havness (63).

He has traveled with the boat more times than he can remember, and at least more than one can count on one hand.

– Probably between seven and ten, he estimates.

The 63-year-old is so ready for the holiday that he almost dances into the bus that will take them away from the quay.

IN THE CITY OF LOVE ?: 12 years ago Lisa and Håkon got married in Copenhagen. Now they are back to celebrate their wedding anniversary and Lisa’s birthday.

– Take the boat! is Håkon’s message to Norwegians who refuse to travel to Copenhagen as the situation at the airports is now.

– Fantastic. Absolutely great, he continues.

– What is so wonderful?

– No, you know, there is zero stress. Good food.

– It is a comfortable way to move, his wife Lisa shoots in.

But several of the families VG spoke to on the quay agreed that the trip over had been a nice experience, but that it would still be good to fly home.

– It holds, this here, says family father Øystein Lie (53).
