In “Johnny Handsome – The Beautiful Johnny” (USA 1989), the main actor Mickey Rourke embodies a disfigured gangster who undergoes facial surgery in order to take revenge on his former allies without being recognized. The thriller drama by Walter Hill, based on a novel by John Godey, features Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth McGovern, Forest Whitaker, Ellen Barkin and Lance Henriksen in other prominent roles alongside Rourke. In this country, the feature film was brought onto the market by Plaion Pictures on Blu-ray with German and English LPCM 2.0 sound as well as extensive bonus material in duplicate in the media book. In the USA, Kino Lorber wants to offer “Johnny Handsome – The Beautiful Johnny” for sale on Ultra HD Blu-ray for the first time. The release is scheduled for later in the year. Further details are not yet known.
Content: The criminal John Sedley (M. Rourke), who has been disfigured since birth, is ironically called “the beautiful Johnny” by the crook couple Sunny Boyd (E. Barkin) and Rafe Garrett (L. Henriksen). When the two leave him gunned down after a robbery, he is caught by the police and thrown in prison. There he has plenty of time to carefully plan his revenge. After being released from prison, Johnny undergoes facial surgery and then manages to infiltrate his former gang under a new name.
