Key Factors in Overcoming Cervical Cancer: Early Detection and Immediate Treatment

Jakarta, tvOnenews.com – Did you know that early detection and immediate treatment are key factors in overcoming cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be detected by carrying out an inspection to see if there are tumors growing in the cervix.

“The position of the cervix is a way to see it through examination using special tools and methods to see the condition of the uterine wall,” said Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist, Sub-specialist in Oncology from PELNI Hospital, Yuri Feharsal.

Yuri further said that an early examination can see whether the tumor mass is growing or not.

“From this examination we can assess whether there is a tumor mass growing on the cervix. Under normal conditions, the surface of the cervix will feel smooth without any tumor growing,” he added.

According to Yuri, 90 percent of cervical cancer or cervical cancer is caused by infection human papillomavirus (HPV), common symptoms that may arise due to cervical cancer include bleeding after sexual intercourse, prolonged menstrual bleeding, excessive and smelly vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, and bloody urination and defecation.

World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that efforts to prevent cervical cancer consist of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.

“Primary is carried out before women are exposed to risk factors for cervical cancer. Generally through vaccination,” said Yuri.

Secondary prevention efforts are carried out after women are exposed to certain risk factors, such as having a history of sexual intercourse. These steps aim to detect and treat problems early, thereby reducing the risk of developing diseases such as endometriosis.

Through early detection and timely intervention, women can receive appropriate treatment and manage their health conditions more effectively.

“If you have had sexual intercourse, it is no longer appropriate to do primary prevention, but secondary prevention with early detection,” he said.

Yuri recommends that if cancer occurs, tertiary prevention steps are very important. The main goal is to prevent the cancer from getting worse and manage the health condition with appropriate therapy.

Through tertiary prevention, efforts are made to prevent the spread of cancer, relieve symptoms, and improve the patient’s quality of life. With early diagnosis and prompt treatment, tertiary prevention can provide hope and support for individuals affected by cancer to achieve better outcomes in their treatment journey.

“If cancer has occurred, you must prevent the cancer from progressing to a worse condition so therapy must be carried out immediately, that is called tertiary prevention,” he concluded (ant/mii)r
