Kasper van Kooten (48), who divorced his wife Lisa Mioch in late 2019, says their breakup had a long run-up. The actor and presenter tells in conversation with Beautiful world that a lot of therapy and conversations preceded it.
Van Kooten calls the decision to get a divorce “the most difficult, toughest and most intense thing there is”. “To decide – without your child having a say in it – that it is no longer possible.”
The actor and Mioch, who had been together for nine years, were in therapy and had many conversations. “The danger is that you will get stuck in that, because you both dread the moment when you say it is really over, while you both know it would be better. But left or right that is what we have come up with.”
According to Van Kooten, the divorce was “exemplary”, but he and his ex are still recovering from it. He is therefore not yet busy with a new love. “A new relationship is something that is not yet in my system at all and that I am not looking for.”
Van Kooten spends a lot of time with his five-year-old daughter Puck. The arrival of his child has made him more afraid of “irreparably harming himself”, such as by drinking alcohol. The actor has therefore decided to ban alcohol from his life permanently.
“I am now no longer just for myself, but also for my daughter”, says Van Kooten. “That includes responsibility. I have been on the road for three months now without drinking and I am hopeful that it will get longer.”
