According to the Prime Minister’s press secretary Sandris Sabajevs, the head of government pointed out the important role of experts in the vaccination process, expressing that the population needs to be convinced that safe and effective vaccines for human health are used in public immunization.

Kariņš pointed to the common goal: to achieve collective immunity, allowing a gradual return to the rhythm of life without the restrictions caused by the pandemic.

The Prime Minister and the participants of the conversation – IVP and Minister of Health Daniels Pavļuts (AP) – agreed on a regular exchange of information and, if necessary, a meeting to assess the course of the immunization process.

IVP Chair Dace Zavadska briefed the Prime Minister on the members, tasks and role of the Council in evaluating the safety and efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines. At the request of the Ministry of Health, the Council has assessed which priority groups should be identified in the Covid-19 vaccination process. Zavadska and other members of the council emphasized that the council consists of independent experts.

As reported, 9,899 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia since the start of the vaccination campaign. To date, a total of 7629 medical practitioners and 2270 employees of medical institutions have been vaccinated.
