Kamala Harris became the first woman to hold presidential power in the United States

The president was to undergo a colonoscopy on Friday and was put under anesthesia. The colonoscopy is part of a routine health check, according to the White House.

Vice President Harris temporarily took over as president, while Biden was under anesthesia. For one hour and 25 minutes, Harris sat in the presidency, joining the first woman in history in that capacity.

Just after 6 pm Norwegian time, Biden was back as president, reports AFP.

Biden underwent his first routine health check as President of the United States on the same day he turned 79 years old.

Biden’s previous health check was in December when doctors concluded that the former vice president was “healthy”, “fit” and “medically fit to succeed in his presidential duties”, according to a doctor’s report.

Kevin O’Connor, who has been Biden’s GP since 2009, writes in a note that the then incoming president was generally in good shape.

Friday’s health check will be performed at Walter Reed Hospital outside Washington.
