Jürgen Klopp wins with Liverpool FC: “We are not geniuses, but we can really fight”

Cross-season, Liverpool are now 22 home games in a row, breaking the Premier League record that Liverpool had held since 1972. “This is something special. We had to fight hard, we’re not geniuses, but we can really fight,” said Klopp.

Liverpool’s lead over defending champions and second-placed Manchester City, who finished two games less, was 25 points on Saturday. The Reds are thus on course for the first championship in 30 years.

Mohamed Salah (25th minute) with his 16th goal of the season in his 100th Premier League appearance for Liverpool and Sadio Mané (33th) secured Liverpool’s 15th win in the 15th home game of the season.

Three victories until the championship

Bournemouth had previously had a better start in Anfield and had taken the lead through Callum Wilson (9th). After just under 20 minutes, defender Steve Cook had to leave the field injured. Substituted for Cook, Jack Simpson lost the ball to Liverpool striker Mané, who subsequently provided the template for Salah’s equalizer.

Liverpool have three wins to secure the championship. “Three more wins?” Klopp asked about the win against Bournemouth and then said that his team was “100 percent” thinking about the upcoming return leg in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Atlético Madrid next Wednesday (9pm, live ticker: SPIEGEL.de).

Klopp had to go without goalkeeper Alisson against Bournemouth, who was missing due to a hip injury. For him, Liverpool’s number two Adrian stood between the posts, who will probably also represent Alisson against Atlético. The first leg had lost Liverpool 1-0. Team captain Jordan Henderson and defender Andy Robertson, who were also missing on Saturday, are expected to return to Madrid.
