Jogger arrested stabbing dog to death in Waasmunster

In the investigation into a jogger who stabbed a dog to death in the East Flemish Waasmunster last Saturday, the perpetrator was arrested. The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office reports this, after camera images of the suspect were distributed.

The facts happened on Saturday evening in the Donkerputstraat in Waasmunster. Two walkers were out with dog Dribbel when they crossed a jogger. The dog, a jack russell, walked with the jogger for a moment. However, the man drew a sharp object above, stabbed the animal and then walked on. The dog died on the spot.

The local police zone Hamme / Waasmunster distributed camera images of the possible suspect via Facebook on Thursday. The jogger was filmed in the area by a security camera at a house in the Neerstraat. “The images led to a quick identification of the suspect, who has in the meantime been arrested and questioned,” the prosecutor said. ‘It concerns a 43-year-old man from Lokeren. He confesses that he is the person who stung the dog. ‘

The man will be brought before the investigating judge in Dendermonde for offenses of animal cruelty and also for a violation of gun law. The public prosecutor’s office is demanding his arrest for the violation of the gun laws. ‘The man cannot be arrested for the animal cruelty itself. The law provides for the possibility of arrest by the investigating judge for offenses that can be punished with a prison sentence of one year or more, which is not the case for animal cruelty, but for violations of the gun legislation, ” reports the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office.
