Jacinda Ardern is so popular with New Zealanders that even among those who do not vote for her in Saturday’s legislative elections, it is difficult to find anyone who does not have a complimentary word, at least about the country’s reaction to Covid-19. Ardern, who became a kind of pop star of international politics, is far from having achieved the objectives with which it came to power in 2017, but these days it seems to matter little.
