Most of our southern neighbors are in northern Italy. The list tops Lombardy with 116 infections, just south of the Swiss border, followed by Veneto with 25 cases. Rome – the southernmost region of Italy with confirmed infections – reports three cases so far.
Between Milan and the Swiss border alone there were 36 infections on Sunday, with three more cases in Milan. The hotspot of Lombardy is located in the city of Lodi, which has a population of just under 46,000, southeast of Milan with initially 49 infections. Around Codogno near Milan alone, 50,000 people are cordoned off from the outside world. “Entering and leaving these areas is prohibited,” said the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte (55).

This makes northern Italy the largest virus crisis area in Europe. Large events were canceled in Lombardy and Veneto, including the Venice Carnival. Schools and businesses remain closed. Parents of Italy’s “Patient 1” picked up at home
Two of the Italian virus victims died in Lombardy, the third victim so far died in Veneto, just east of it. In Lombardy, the parents of Italy’s “Patient 1” were also taken into medical custody on Saturday.
