Italian farmer caught lighting wildfire | Abroad

Police in Italy were able to locate and arrest the man. He struck in Montesarchio, about 30 kilometers from Naples in the south of the country. His motive has not yet been released. Earlier it became clear that more of the fires in southern Europe have been started.

More than 400 people were evacuated this weekend due to a forest fire from the Italian resort of Campomarino Lido, on the Adriatic Sea. Hotels and campsites in the area were also evacuated.

A video released by the fire brigade shows how thick clouds of smoke spread through the streets of the resort and flames threaten a cafe. Photos on social media showed the fires surrounding houses. The fire brigade tried to fight the fire from the air with a fire-fighting plane and a helicopter.

Forest fires have been raging all week in southern Italy and on the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. The drought, high temperatures and strong winds make the fires easily flare up and difficult to extinguish. Albania, Greece and Turkey are also struggling with fires. At least ten people have died so far: two in Greece and eight in Turkey. Dutch tourists, for example on the Turkish coast, had to cut short their holiday in a hurry.
