It was inhumane what I was doing on the field, godfather Řepka admits

An unusual company. The owners of a total of 25 championship titles sat down at one table. Petr Novák, Jiří Novotný, Tomáš Řepka and David Lafata presented themselves as godfathers of the book Sparta 130 Years of Football History, written by the editor of Sport.cz and Právo newspaper, Karel Felt.

Admittedly, players who have worn the red shirt are upset that Sparta’s last title was won in the 2013/14 season.

“I’d love to, but I’m pessimistic this season. More time will be needed”, speculates Lafata, protagonist of the last championship match at Letne.

“Sparta are catching up a bit, but unfortunately Pilsen and Slavia are ahead,” agreed Řepka.

“The new manager has taken over a team that he didn’t build himself, so it really depends on what the next steps are. If they don’t play dominantly as Priske originally wanted, but above all intentionally, they can be successful,” says Novotný.

“When it comes to the title, anything is possible,” adds Novák with another drop of optimism.

The Sparta 130 Years of Football History book begins with a short reminder of the club’s development, the main part of which is made up of medallions symbolically representing the club’s 130 greatest players: Sparta will celebrate 130 years since its foundation in November next year.

“Probably everyone would agree on the hundred, one hundred and ten best players. Some criteria had to be established for the selection of the others. For example, the number of titles won or the importance for the history of football. That’s why it reached, for example , Jan Koller or Petr Čech, who were active in Sparta for a rather short time,” explains author Karel Felt.
