The Israeli army announced on Monday that it had bombed several targets in Syria in response to rocket launches, amid growing fears that the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip would turn into a broader regional conflict.

The Israeli army said on the X website: “A short time ago, an Israeli army fighter plane attacked the platforms from which the (missile) launches were launched last night from Syrian territory towards Israeli territory.”
He added that the Israeli plane “bombed military infrastructure in Syrian territory.” The army did not provide further details. But according to the Israeli public broadcaster Kan News, the raids targeted sites in the Daraa region in southern Syria linked to allies of Iran.
Concerns are growing about the regional repercussions resulting from the war launched by Israel against Hamas in Gaza. There have been a series of attacks on American forces in Iraq and Syria, in addition to an increase in bombing exchanges between Hezbollah and Israeli forces on the Lebanese border since the start of the conflict in Gaza.
On Sunday, the border between Israel and Lebanon witnessed an escalation in tension and continuous mutual bombardment since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.
Hezbollah announced on Sunday that its fighters “targeted an Israeli march in the East Khiam area (in southern Lebanon) with a surface-to-air missile and hit it directly, and it was seen with the naked eye falling into the occupied Palestinian territories.”
This is the first time since the start of the current border tension that Hezbollah has announced the use of a surface-to-air missile, after it was content with announcing the bombing of Israeli sites with guided missiles or “appropriate weapons.”
For its part, the Israeli army confirmed that it recorded the launching of rockets from southern Lebanon towards Kiryat Shmona and Har Dov, and responded to them.
