Israel Continues Air and Ground Attacks on Gaza: At Least 29 Killed in Latest Strikes

Israel continues to carry out ground and air attacks on the Gaza Strip controlled by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Health officials in Gaza said on Thursday (3/14) that the Israeli army carried out air strikes on a group of refugees receiving humanitarian supplies that day, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 people.

Gaza officials said the first attack occurred in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza corridor. At that time, residents were gathering to wait to receive food, but they were hit by an Israeli military air strike, killing eight people.

Soon after, another airstrike occurred in the northern Gaza Strip, killing 21 refugees and injuring more than 150 people who were waiting for humanitarian supplies trucks to arrive.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it did not attack the relief supply center and called relevant reports “false and untrue.” “The Israeli military investigates and evaluates all incidents, and we call on the media to do the same and rely on trustworthy information,” the statement said.

Gaza officials late last month accused the Israeli army of shooting at Gaza residents collecting food supplies, killing more than 100 people. However, the Israeli army said that the refugees fought for and attacked the humanitarian aid truck, leading to the death due to the jostling during the chaos.

Hamas launched a raid in southern Israel on October 7 last year, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping about 253 others. Israel subsequently launched large-scale retaliatory attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 31,000 people so far, 70% of whom were women and children.

With the mediation of the United States, Qatar, Egypt and other countries, it was originally hoped that Israel and Kazakhstan would be able to have a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan, which started on March 11. However, Israel and Kazakhstan have so far failed to reach any consensus.

Hamas told representatives mediating the ceasefire on Thursday that its ceasefire conditions were that Israel must immediately cease its incursions into Gaza, provide humanitarian aid, allow Gaza residents to return to their homes, and withdraw all Israeli ground troops.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office responded that Hamas’s demands were “unrealistic.”

The United Nations has warned that as a new wave of fighting between Israel and Kazakhstan enters its sixth month and humanitarian supplies are difficult to enter, at least 576,000 Gaza residents are on the verge of famine.
