At the start of the year, the powerful General Ghassem Soleimani was killed in Baghdad in a bombing attack attributed to the United States. He was one of the most popular characters in Iran, and considered a feared adversary of the United States and its allies. President Trump said at the time that he had ordered his death. Leader of the Qods Force of the Revolutionary Guards, in charge of the Islamic Republic’s external operations, this charismatic figure has notably exercised a key influence in political negotiations since 2018 with a view to forming a government in Iraq.
This Monday, April 29, Iran decided to prosecute Donald Trump in this case. As Fars, the Iranian news agency, reports, authorities have issued an arrest warrant against the President, whom he considers responsible for the death of General Soleimani. Iran plans to prosecute the President as soon as his term ends. Assistance from Interpol was also sought.
