Iran-USA, Pompeo: “UN sanctions return to force”. And it threatens to punish those who don’t respect them

The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said the UN sanctions against Iran had “returned to effect” and threatened “consequences” if the member states of the international body do not comply with them. “Today – he said – the United States welcomes the return of practically all UN sanctions previously revoked against the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Washington, however, is isolated from the other great powers, including its European allies who insist instead that these sanctions have not returned to force and that the American procedure is devoid of legal effects.

Pompeo announced the news with a post on Twitter. “Virtually all sanctions against Iran, the main state sponsor of terrorism and anti-Semitism, have returned. This includes a permanent extension of the arms embargo. This is excellent news for peace in the region.”

A month ago, the United States started the procedure at the UN for the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran (the so-called snapback). “NWe will never allow – Pompey thundered on the 21st August – that a terrorist state freely buys and sells aircraft, missiles and other types of weapons. “The American ambassador Kelly Craft he had sent a letter to the Indonesian ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, rotating president of the Security Council, presenting the complaint about Tehran’s failure to comply with the 2015 nuclear agreement.

And a countdown had started with a deadline that coincides with 21 September, the day of the

75esima United Nations General Assembly in which they will be protagonists Donald Trump (looking for a second term), his Chinese and Russian counterparts, Xi Jinping e Vladimir Putin (who ‘come back’ after several years of absence), and the Iranian president, Hassan Rohani |.
