The new Star Wars volume about Vader’s Odyssey on Mustafar – in our review.

Content (blurb):

The Lord of the Sith was obsessed with the idea of revenge on all those who hid his son from him for many years. Vader almost betrayed the Emperor and he is not very pleased with the rebellious behavior of his student.

Star Wars 69

criticism

The new Star Wars band continues the story about Darth Vader and builds the bridge to the new trilogy. In terms of drawing, one has stayed at the usual good level, so that all details of the characters are always recognizable and the backgrounds, in the mostly darker scenes, can also be seen. Of course you have to differentiate here, because almost all characters in this volume wear a helmet. It’s hard to read emotions from faces.

With Ochi von Bestoon, a well-known character from Star Wars IX appears and the Sith pathfinders also play a prominent role, as Vader is about to find Exegol. But one after the other.

Vader was damaged at first and now has to repair himself in order to survive against Ochi. As nice as these scenes, which borrow a lot from “Revenge of the Sith”, are, one has to ask oneself whether Palpatine really wants to replace Vader. Or why he wants to let him in on the secrets of Exegol. But maybe the next band will bring some light here. Maybe there is a secret plan behind it after all?

Until then, there is fighting action and a bit of mystery in the present volume. That is implemented quite well. And if you are wondering who or what this ominous “Eye in the Fog” is – well, this guardian does not appear in the film, but in the adaptation of Episode IX he appears briefly at the beginning as Kylo the Sith pathfinder from brings him. So another reference to the new film, which not everyone should recognize immediately.

Whether the existence of such a being in Palpatine’s plans makes sense … but well, that’s grumbling on a high level and, as I said, there are the following volumes for that. Here you have a quite respectable history.

Conclusion

The links to Episode IX are well done and the fight scenes in the tape are well implemented. Of course, one can now ask why these relationships weren’t already there in the film and why everything is only explained afterwards. But that shouldn’t surprise you anymore with Star Wars.
