Indonesian airport tested travelers with used test sticks

Five employees of the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Kimia Farma were arrested on Tuesday last week, accused of reusing coronate equipment, writes CNN.

Washed and used the pins again

According to police, the company must have washed sticks that had already been in another person’s nose and throat, and then sent them for reuse at Kualanamu International Airport in Indonesia. Those arrested risk up to 10 years in prison.

Indonesian authorities demand negative test results for people to travel by plane. They offer test equipment delivered by Kimia Farma at the airport, and the company is said to have used used equipment for about four months.

Requires compensation

According to South China Morning Post plans two lawyers who frequently traveled via Kualanamu International Airport in the period in question to sue the company. They demand redress of the equivalent of 500,000 Norwegian kroner for all involved in the case.

Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country and is among the hardest hit Asian countries. They have so far reported 1.6 million cases of infection and 46,000 deaths due to the coronavirus. They are currently experiencing an increase in infection and report an average of 5,000 new cases of infection daily. In an attempt to curb the spread of infection, the country has introduced a travel ban both abroad and domestically until 17 May. The ban includes buses, trains, ferries, planes and car rides outside their own city.
