Next year’s Latvian Folk Race includes ten stages – four races in the Folk Race Winter Cup, six races in the Folk Race Summer Cup. Throughout the year, athletes will fight for the chance to win the big prize – a paid 2022 season.

Forecasts of both the weather and the constraints caused by the pandemic situation create a tense situation regarding the possible course of the winter race, but believing in success, Latvian Folkreis participants and race organizers are ready to meet in the first scheduled race on December 26 in Bauska, Mūsa track. In winter, sections are also planned in Vecpils, Pilskalni track and Brenguļi.

In the summer season, the stages are planned on the best Latvian autocross tracks. The riders of the Folkreisa Summer Cup will fight in Smiltene, Priekule, Jēkabpils side in Pilskalni, Vecpils, Mūsa track and Brenguļi. In both the winter and summer seasons, the Cross Country Autocross Cup will traditionally start together with the Folkreis.

In 2021, the participants of the Folkreis will compete for the main prize – paid participation in the 2022 Folkreis competition. At the end of the year, this prize will be drawn among the riders who will have completed all the folk races in 2021. There are several other surprises for athletes during the season.

Folkreiss is a popular motorsport sport in which participants compete on autocross and rallycross tracks, starting with cars equipped with safety frames. Folkreiss keeps costs low and accessible to participants, as any car can be purchased by anyone who wants a fixed fee of 950 euros, while the car owner (rider) must not refuse this transaction. This makes us consider the amount of money to be invested in the car – no matter how expensive the components are installed in the Folkreisa car, the driver will receive 950 euros in case of purchase. The system works, because, for example, in 2020, 93 participants entered the only Folkreis class, but in the autumn the number of riders who started in one stage was surpassed in the Mūsa race – 63 participants were the only winners.

There are additional tests in the folk race – Junior Cup for riders aged 14 to 18, Classic Cup for rear-wheel drive cars, Team Cup. From next year, the Folkreis plans will also return to the Ladies’ Cup. This was prompted by the 2020 season, during which nine members of the fairer sex took the start. Although the results of these additional tests are calculated on the basis of the total results of the stage, in the Summer Cup of 2021, separate finals, or so-called Super Stages, will be held in two stages in the Women’s and Junior Battles.

Folkreiss has also acquired the motto: “Folkreiss – where victories must be won!” It is emphasized that it is almost impossible to win accidentally in the battles of many dozen participants, such victories must be won in heavy battles.
