In overtime: Herner EV wins home game against Limburg

Herne.
An ice hockey thriller on Herner Gysenberg. The Herner EV has won again after six defeats in a row. There is still room for improvement.

After six defeats in a row, the Herner EV managed to win again on Friday, but it was not a real breakthrough. The EG Diez-Limburg could only be defeated 5: 4 (2: 1, 1: 1, 1: 2) after extra time.

The evening in the Hannibal Arena began with a minute’s silence for Günter Thill, long-time managing director and HEV honorary president, who died three weeks ago at the age of 79. Afterwards there could be no talk of good league ice hockey in front of 751 spectators.

Two crisis teams meet in Herne

The opponent had fared little better than the HEV with five defeats in a row and the mortgage of the past weeks weighed heavily on the shoulders and in the heads of both teams.

The hosts got a little better into the game, using their second power play to lead and only 41 seconds later. A double strike that could actually have been suitable to loosen the tension in the Gysenbergers, but the 2-0 lead was not really liberating. Diez-Limburg used the first Herner penalty to the connecting gate and equalized shortly after the restart – the game started all over again and the guests were now about to turn it.

“We only had three shots in the first ten minutes of the second period, although we had resolved to hit as many targets as possible”, criticized HEV coach Danny Albrecht and had to watch the uncertainty of his team from minute to Minute grew. The HEV only managed to take the lead again in the power play.

But even afterwards, the latest series of bankruptcies continued to play along with every action by the hosts, nothing went easily and bad luck with injuries. Tomi Wilenius couldn’t breathe after a check and had to go to the hospital for an examination – it was not yet known shortly after the end of the game whether the Finn was threatened with a longer compulsory break.

Nevertheless, the green-white-reds increased the result back to the old two-goal lead shortly after the start of the last third, but now Danny Albrecht had another point of criticism. “Too many indisciplines”, the HEV coach was annoyed and his captain felt particularly addressed.

Michel Ackers had to go to the penalty box, acknowledged the guests’ immediate goal with an inappropriate remark to the referee and was allowed to sit down for the next two minutes.

Limburg strikes back three seconds before the end

Three more Hernians followed in the final phase, but with a lot of effort, some luck and a strong Björn Linda between the posts, the HEV survived the critical minutes. In the end, three seconds were missing from the three. Diez-Limburg pulled the sixth outfield player and this time Linda was powerless – it went into overtime.

Artur Tegkaev put an end to it all after 70 seconds with the 5: 4, but the second point did not feel like a real success for many Herner. Even if Danny Albrecht later portrayed it differently, at least externally: “For the minds it was important that there was at least another victory.”
