At 10.45 a.m., the fire brigade control center will trigger the NINA warning app to indicate the test alarm

The control center of the fire brigade will trigger the test alarm in Düsseldorf on Thursday at 11 a.m. and thus test the 81 sirens distributed throughout the city. Düsseldorf is thus participating in the nationwide warning day, which is being organized for the third time. The test alarm starts when the NINA warning app is triggered at 10:45 a.m. In addition, the fire brigade will inform about the test alarm on Facebook and Twitter.

Expiry on Thursday

> 10.45 a.m. Activation of the NINA warning app
> 11 o’clock signal “all clear”: Continuous tone of one minute, which means that the danger is over.
> 11.06 am “Warning” signal: rising and falling continuous tone for about one minute. Citizens should remain calm, go into a building, close windows and doors, if necessary inform neighbors and switch on the radio (antenna Düsseldorf or WDR 2)
> 11.12 am signal “all-clear”
> 11.20 a.m. The fire brigade control center gives the all-clear in the NINA warning app

The aim of the exercise is to sensitize the population to the siren signals in an emergency and to identify gaps in the sound system in the siren network.
“Only those who regularly get to know the meaning of the sirens, radio warning announcements, the information messages via social networks as well as the Internet and the warning app can act correctly in an emergency,” emphasizes fire department chief David von der Lieth. “Through the test runs that have been taking place in Düsseldorf for many years, we are able to get people in the state capital to remember the population warning.”

For information and queries from the population, the danger hotline on 38 89 889 is manned from 10.45 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday. Feedback on the sirens and questions about warning can be asked there. The fire brigade asks that the emergency number 112 only be used to report actual emergencies and not to inquire about the siren test alarm.

Düsseldorf modernizes siren system

The feedback on gaps in the PA system is analyzed after each test alarm. Specialists from the fire brigade check the systems together with a maintenance company. This made it possible to localize technical restrictions of the systems and improve the sound reinforcement in many places. On Thursday, mobile teams from security and service will be on duty at four locations to start a sound level measurement at specified points. In the catchment area of the Sirnenanlagen in the Rath area on Eitelstrasse, on Kasernenstrasse in Carlstadt, Zum Märchenland in Flingern and on Blankertzstrasse in Ludenberg, the teams will measure and record the volume of the individual siren tones. The values recorded there are also taken into account for the expansion of the sirens.

Information for commuters

From Thursday morning in Düsseldorf, the 680 digital display boards of the Rheinbahn at the stops as well as the urban traffic information boards of the Office for Traffic Management will provide information on the siren test alarm. Travelers and commuters should also be informed about the test alarm.
