The Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Aviv Kochavi, warned US officials against the US administration’s plans to re-enter the 2015 nuclear deal.

Kochavi’s visit to Washington is seen as a last-minute effort by Israel to influence advanced negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The IDF chief met with the chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon.

“The chief of staff presented the failures of the current nuclear deal, which allows Iran to make significant progress in the coming years in the quantity and quality of centrifuges and in the quantity and quality of enriched uranium, and highlighted the lack of oversight in the area of nuclear weapon development, “the IDF spokesman said in a statement.

“The chief of staff emphasized the inherent danger of returning to the original nuclear agreement and emphasized that everything possible should be done to prevent Iran from obtaining military nuclear capabilities,” the military spokesman stressed.

During the meeting Kohavi discussed with Milley and Austin the efforts of the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah to develop precision guided missiles and elaborated on the recent conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“The strategic and military alliance with the United States represents a facet of the national security of the State of Israel that is of the utmost importance. Cooperation between armies is a force multiplier and of growing mutual interest in recent years, and we will continue to work together against our shared threats in the Middle East, ”Kohavi stressed during the meeting.
