IDAI presents Inpost & Mobile for screening for congenital heart disease

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) launched the Inpost (Indonesian Newborn Pulse Oxymetry Screening Training) program, which is a one-day critical congenital heart disease (CHD) screening training for health workers, doctors, midwives, and nurses.

Not only that, IDAI also presents Mobile Phones (Pulse Oximetry Newborn Screening E-learning), which is a one-month critical CHD screening lesson for health workers. These two programs aim to help reduce infant and child mortality so that a good quality of life can be achieved.

“We at IDAI hope that the training program that will be held by IDAI and the Ministry of Health will be able to help health workers who handle births and children to carry out early detection of Congenital Heart Disease,” said General Chairperson of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association, Dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, SpA(K) in a press release on Tuesday.

Piprim said that the front line personnel who can provide health assistance to these children are midwives, general practitioners, or pediatricians who assist in childbirth or Sectio (Cesar).

“IDAI is committed to helping reduce infant and child mortality because children are the future of the nation,” he said.

Data from the Ministry of Health shows that about 80 percent of newborns who die in the first 6 days after birth are caused by congenital abnormalities.

This figure accounts for the infant mortality rate of about 7 percent. One of the congenital abnormalities is CHD.

Data from the Centers for Health Control and Prevention (CDC) even states that 1 in 100 newborns in the world has CHD.

IDAI hopes that the socialization of PJB early detection and the launch of the Inpost and Mobile training program can help reduce infant and child mortality rates and various related parties can take preventive and promotive efforts to critical CHD and CHD problems to improve the quality of life of Indonesian infants and children.

Regarding the role of health workers, agreeing with Piprim, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Midwives Association, DR Emi Nurjasmi, M.Kes said, the role of midwives is very important in screening during ANC or antenatal care, namely pregnancy checks.

This examination is carried out in an integrated manner and in collaboration with doctors for comprehensive maternal and fetal health checks in accordance with their competence and authority.

According to her. Midwives as birth attendants must carry out examinations and assessments of the baby immediately after birth to find out any disturbances from the beginning of birth, so that if any disturbances or abnormalities are found, they can be anticipated as early as possible.

In addition, midwives must also immediately make referrals and collaborate with pediatricians.

On the other hand, the Director of Family Health (Ditkesga) of the Ministry of Health, dr. Erna Mulati. M.Sc-CMFM said that critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) is one of eight priority congenital disorders that receive attention from the government.

In order to support the prevention and control of CHD, one of the policies of the Ministry of Health is to strengthen the information system for congenital disorders by establishing surveillance of priority congenital abnormalities and strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

The Ministry of Health has actually provided training for surveillance of congenital abnormalities for 35 Referral Hospitals to help monitor prevalence trends, identify clusters in the population and identify risk factors for congenital abnormalities and CHD.
