Bike lovers will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the tour charity bike ride through New York City.

In partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), the organization Bike New York announced Monday that the cyclists of the Tour 2022 now they’ll have an extra hour to enjoy the sights and sounds of the world’s most exciting city. The additional hour marks the event’s first significant change in decades, providing an enhanced experience for riders to enjoy in the counties.
The additional hour will be incorporated at the beginning of the ride with departure waves from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The announcement occurs when the tour, which was capped at 20,000 registrants last year and noticeably delayed until August, will operate at full capacity for the first time since 2019, with 32,000 riders. Bicyclists will enjoy 40 miles of car-free New York City streets.
Registration for the ride on Sunday, May 1 is now open to New Yorkers and visitors as the world reopens and biking rises in popularity with thousands of local cyclists. During the height of the pandemic, the average number of weekday cyclists increased by about 33 percent and stores sold out of bikes and their parts. The total number of passengers continues with an upward trend.
“The extra hour is a game changer for the cyclists of the TD Five Boro Bike Tour”, said the president and CEO of Bike New York, Ken Podziba. “The ability to spread out the starting waves means less congestion, plus extra room to soak in the incredible views and enjoy a smoother, freer ride. The tour this year will be the best yet, and we are grateful to Mayor Adams, Commissioner Rodriguez and all of our government partners for working with us to infuse an exciting and liberating new feeling into the experience of tour”.
The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is the main fundraising event for Bike New York, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering New Yorkers to transform their lives and their communities through cycling. Proceeds from the event directly fund free public bicycle education programs for more than 30,000 adults and children each year in all five boroughs.
“The DOT is delighted that the TD Five Boro Bike Tour not only will it be back to full capacity this year, but cyclists will also have an extra hour to enjoy riding on car-free roads in all five boroughs,” said New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanís Rodríguez. .
