How Far Is the Boundary Between Earth and Space? This is what the expert said

KOMPAS.com – Earth what we live in is part of the secret of the universe, and is still being studied by scientists. There is an interesting question, about what is the boundary between Earth and outer space.

Reported from Live ScienceSunday (1/5/2022) aerospace physicist at Arizona State University, Katrina Bossert, said that the closer you get to the edge Earth’s atmosphere the less oxygen is available.

Most of the climbers on Mount Everest, carry oxygen cylinders to help them breathe freely at high altitudes.

This is because there is less oxygen at that altitude than at a much lower place.

This condition finally raises the question of the extent of the boundaries between Earth and outer space.

Then, where? boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space?

Answering this, Bossert said that the Earth’s atmosphere consists of several layers.

Explaining the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, Bossert said that in each layer of the Earth there is a character of changes in temperature, chemical composition, density, and the movement of gases in it.

“As you get further away from Earth, the atmosphere becomes less dense. “The composition also changed, and lighter atoms and molecules began to dominate, while heavier molecules remained closer to the Earth’s surface.”

The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), revealed that all layers of the atmosphere play a role in ensuring that the Earth can accommodate all types of life.

The layer also does everything from blocking cancer-causing cosmic radiation, to creating the pressure needed to produce water.

As humans move closer to the atmosphere, air pressure will also decrease significantly.

This area is the boundary that has been determined by scientists, as a sign of the end of Earth’s atmosphere as well as the beginning of outer space.

This point that becomes the boundary between Earth and space is known as karma linenamed after the Hungarian-American physicist Theodore von Kármán in 1957.
