“Houses for Sale in Horden, England: Prices as low as £5,000”

Jakarta

Houses in Horden, County Durham, England are sold very cheaply, some are even selling for £ 5,000 or the equivalent of Rp. 80.3 million.

Reported from Daily Record, Monday (29/5/2023), Horden is a seaside area that was once famous for its coal industry, now residents are starting to abandon it by selling the houses where they live. This made Horden a sleepy town that was even called the ‘Ghost Town’.

Horden experienced a period of fame throughout Europe, due to some of the coal workers there who were known to be tireless in producing their mines. It is said that on May 9, 1930 miners there had set a record by extracting 6,758 tons of coal in 1 day.

In 1987 the coal industry in England officially closed, which made many Horden residents slowly leave the area.

One of the YouTubers, David Burnip, visited the city and interviewed several residents who still lived in the city of Horden by explaining the reasons behind the collapse of the city of Horden. “The curtains have collapsed since the coal mine was finished (closed),” said a resident in Horden.

On the other hand, some residents also stated that there was no longer a comfortable place in the area, plus drug use was starting to run rampant. Rampant drug use is not only targeting young people, but residents aged 40-50s also participate in the use of these drugs.

Four properties in Horden will be listed on RightMove (a UK property sales portal) in late May 2023. One of them is a property worth £ 5,000 or the equivalent of Rp. 80.3 million.

There is also a house located on Tees Street, Horden which sold for £ 30,250 or the equivalent of Rp. 486 million, which was sold in 2006. In addition, the house which is located on Seventh Street is being sold for £ 22,750 or the equivalent of Rp. 365.6 million.

However, even though it has become a ‘Ghost Town’ or empty of residents, there are also houses that are being sold at prices that can be considered expensive, namely a house located on Rosedale Terrace selling for £ 98,000 or the equivalent of Rp. 1.5 billion, according to the RightMove report.
